Keeping a Small Bathroom Tidy

A small bathroom fills up faster than any other room in the house. A bottle here, a towel there, and within a week the sink has disappeared under everything you use in the morning.

The answer is rarely a bigger room. It is usually a matter of using the walls.

A shelf above the toilet is one of the simplest changes you can make. It takes the things you reach for every day off the sink and gives them a place of their own. Keep it calm: a few bottles, a stack of rolled towels, perhaps a small plant. The moment it gets crowded, it stops helping.

Hooks do the same for towels and bathrobes. Hung on the wall or the back of the door, they dry better and leave the floor clear. In the shower, a wall shelf keeps bottles off the edge of the tray and makes cleaning a lot quicker.

Then there are the small things that tend to wander: hair ties, cotton pads, brushes. A clear organiser on the counter or inside a cabinet gives them a home, so you can see what you have at a glance.

None of this needs a renovation. It is about deciding where each item lives and keeping to it. A tidy bathroom is not one with less in it, but one where everything has a place.
